Sia recreates bizarre, moving choreography from ‘Elastic Heart’ video on ‘SNL’

Pop singer Sia recreated the dramatic dance moves from her controversial “Elastic Heart” music video — minus Shia LaBeouf — on the most recent episode of Saturday Night Live.

Sia stood upstage throughout her entire performance, while wearing a small black veil over half of her face while she sang. The spotlight instead focused on two dancers: Maddie Ziegler, who starred in the music video for “Elastic Heart,” and a similarly dressed, older doppelganger in place of LaBeouf.

Ziegler and her fellow dancer managed to recreate the video’s primal choreography despite SNL‘s cramped stage. Ziegler, who rose to fame on reality show Dance Moms, also starred in Sia’s video for “Chandelier.” Read more…

Kevin Hart wants you to stop posting bad Instagram photos in ‘SNL’ spoof

You know those people you follow on Instagram — the ones who post stuff that’s unfit for public consumption?

You’re not alone in your dislike. On this week’s Saturday Night Live, Kevin Hart plays Darnell Pepper, the host of Why’d You Post That?, a show dedicated to Instagram photos so bad, gross or tasteless that no filter can help them.

Hart hosted the most recent episode of Saturday Night Live, which featured musical guest Sia. The sketch show has lampooned social media users in the past, including an unaired sketch about the mundane stuff we’re all guilty of tweeting. Read more…

‘SNL’ skewers Justin Bieber’s over-the-top Calvin Klein underwear ad campaign

It’s clear that SNL cast member Kate McKinnon knows nobody was impressed by Calvin Klein’s recent ad campaign featuring pop star Justin Bieber

McKinnon’s pointed impression of Bieber on Saturday Night Live‘s latest episode is one for the ages, perfectly spoofing the look of Calvin Klein’s black-and-white ads, as well as giving us an “inside look” at how the singer may have behaved on set

The three ads also feature Cecily Strong as model Lara Stone, who acts how everyone probably would when in close proximity to Biebs wearing underwear.

The New York City subway, through the eyes of Stanley Kubrick

Image: Museum of the City of New York

(Ed: The following article was written by Mildred Stagg and was originally published in the October 1948 issue of The Camera magazine.)

“I think aesthetically recording spontaneous action, rather than carefully posing a picture, is the most valid and expressive use of photography,” Stanley Kubrick said. Maybe the statement wasn’t earth-shaking, but it startled me. The boy who said that had turned 19 a week ago, and has been a staff photographer for LOOK magazines since age 17.

Mr. Kubrick didn’t come by this photographic philosophy overnight. He has been making and selling picture stories for three years. Just three years ago, Stan got his first camera as a present. That was his “how do you do” to the instrument that has served him like the genie served Aladdin. Read more…

Bill Cosby performs in Denver amid protests against alleged sexual assault

DENVER — About 100 protesters chanting “Rape is not a joke!” and “No means no!” protested outside a theater in Denver before comedian Bill Cosby took the stage on Saturday.

Shortly before his performance at the Buell Theatre, one woman held a news conference at a hotel in the city to accuse him of sexually assaulting her in 1986.

Beth Ferrier said during the gathering called by Los Angeles attorney Gloria Allred that Cosby put drugs in her coffee when she went to see one of his shows in Denver. She said the next thing she remembered was waking up hours later in the back of her car “practically naked.” Read more…
